Field Recording
El Niño Storm
One of my biggest passions in audio is field recording. Sound is what connects us to our environment and field recording is like the camera that portrays our experiences.
Here are a couple of samples I recorded.
In 2023 I had the opportunity to record the El Niño Storm in Brazil. The strong winds and the massive amounts of water raining down from the sky made it a challenging recording to capture cleanly. If you notice in the recording, almost all of the wind sound comes from the trees shaking and the resonance from the place I was hiding.
Trees Creaking
Steam Engine Train
This recording is of a steam engine train recorded from the inside. It's a historic train in Brazil that runs from Curitiba to Morretes. It's said to be one of the most beautiful train rides in the world.
Finding unusual sounds is one of the joys of field recording. Sometimes things you never imagined could happen produce interesting sounds. This recording is of two trees that had branches growing into each other, and the wind made them creak. I think a picture is necessary to illustrate this phenomenon so click below.
